Nurse Informaticists have had a role within the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care for over 20 years. Accomplishments include implementing a home-grown nursing information system and integrating standardized nursing languages into its database. Nursing Informatics support nursing staff and collaborate with other disciplines using information technology.

To advance the nursing care of patients and promote professional nursing development by managing and processing nursing data, information, and knowledge.
Goals
Provide leadership in the specialty of Nursing Informatics, Develop technologies that support clinical decision making and facilitate data entry and retrieval, Collaborate with other health care disciplines to create an integrated clinical information system, Support the collection of the Nursing Minimum Data Set, and Integrate Standardized Nursing Languages into clinical information systems.
