Burn Treatment Center Golf Tournament

The Iowa Fire Sprinklers Contractors will hold the third Annual Burn Treatment Center Golf Invitational August 19. Last year alone, over 200 adults and 150 children were admitted to the University of Iowa Burn Treatment Center. Lisa Falkers-Mackey RN, a nurse in the Burn Treatment Center and one of the event's coordinators, talks abut the tournament:

Where will the tournament be held?

It is going to be held again at Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville. You can practice the Monday, night before, and also go to the Iowa Fire Sprinkler contractors having a vendor show. If you're curious about what they do, you can go visit them and get a little insight.

How much money was raised at last year's golfing event?

Last year was just over $19,000.

How much to you hope to raise this year?

It would be great if we topped $25,000. I think that would be just absolutely fabulous.

Last year the money was used for specific programs in the UI Burn Treatment Center. How was the money used?

We use it different ways. We:

  • We send burn kids to burn camp at Lake Okoboji every year
  • Participate in burn prevention outreach programs for adults and children
  • Conduct school re-entry programs for any child that's been burned. We go to their school and present a lecture that is age appropriate.
  • Participate in health and safety fairs around the community and state

How do people sign up to play?

You can contact me at 319-7216216 or e-mail lisa-falkers@uiowa.edu. You can show up the Tuesday the 19th. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m., shotgun doesn't start until noon. Or you can show up at the dinner auction at 6 p.m. We have a lot of great auction items that will be quite fun.

Is this a two-person or four-person best shot?

Four-person, thank goodness!

If someone wanted to stop by and contribute to the event, how would they do that?

They can show up at Brown Deer Golf Course. We are having an auction starting at 6 p.m., and there's a dinner as well. We have many silent auction items and then we will have a verbal auction with some bigger ticket items that have been donated. If they want to donate a dollar amount, I'd take that too.

You're hoping to raise $20,000 dollars this year, but that doesn't mean you would stop there. If somebody wanted to write a $20,000 check just by themselves, you would accept that, right?

Oh, my gosh! I would take it in a heartbeat! Yes!

Any idea what some of the items will be on the auction this year?

We have a:

  • Aaron Kampman jersey
  • University of Iowa football that signed by all of the Iowa football coaches
  • University of Iowa jersey signed by Coach Ferentz
  • Numerous golf things that have been donated

If someone is interested and wants to get four people together and sign up, how would they go about it?

They can contact me at lisa-falkers@uiowa.edu and I would be happy to get them registration forms, or they can call me, which is probably the easiest way to contact me, at 319-7216216.
