Medical Minute: March 2003
Center for Pain Medicine
This Medical Minute is brought to you as a public service by KCRG-TV9 and
University of Iowa Health Care.
Enhanced external counter pulsation – or EECP – is an innovative
treatment for heart patients, available through University of Iowa Heart
Care.
Patients wear special cuffs on their legs, which are precisely timed
to their heartbeat.
EECP increases blood flow to the heart and appears to stimulate new
pathways around narrowed or blocked arteries, lowering stress on
the heart.
