Timothy Brennan, MD, PhD, has been named the Dr. Samir D. Gergis Professor of Anesthesia.

Keith Carter, MD, and Young Kwon, MD, participated in an ORBIS International eye project in Vietnam.

Michael Cohen, MD, and Deborah Thoman have been appointed to the 2008 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Arnold Menezes, MD, is president of the Neurosurgical Society of America.

Marvin Pomerantz, a University of Iowa alumnus who became a prominent Iowa businessman, leader, philanthropist, and benefactor to health care and education at UI, died Aug. 14, 2008. Among his many contributions was a family gift towards a major capital replacement program at UI Hospitals and Clinics, which led to the construction and naming of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion.

Wayne Richenbacher, MD, is serving as president of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs.

Timothy Ryken, MD, was appointed co-chair of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Guidelines Committee.

Curt Sigmund, PhD, has been named to the Roy J. Carver Chair in Hypertension Research.

George Weiner, MD, is a member of the newly formed Operational Efficiency Working Group of the Clinical Trials Advisory Committee, a part of the National Cancer Institute.
